IN THE EYES OF THE LORD

Updated: Mar 29, 2022

God was displeased with Saul, and He decided to appoint a new King for His chosen one, Isreal. In those days, prophets were also known as Seers. Seers (Prophets), see and know what ordinary people are not privileged to, but it was all revealed to them by God. Samuel was God’s prophet and God told Him that He’s found Himself a new king. He gave Him the last name, but didn’t mention the chosen king’s first name. The new king was Jesse’s son, David, but Jesse had seven of them.

Samuel, being a veteran prophet; arrives Jesse’s house and was going to anoint Eliab, Jesse’s first son, but God interrupted him and said this:

*“But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the LORD sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart." - 1 Samuel 16:7 (ESV)*

The above statement wasn’t just a rebuke or correction to a prophet who almost missed it. It’s the CHARACTER of God! Your God is not superficial. He deals with depths and cores. He’s detailed and not general. We must know Him as such. If it’s ever the Lord, it must be characterized by this.

You’re of God. He chose you. How does He see you? There must have been something about you that made Him choose you. Remember now that Samuel was going to anoint Eliab as the chosen of the Lord for the wrong reason - his physique. It means God’s choice of you was based on something better.

The word translated heart in Hebrews means your inner man. We can all make improvements to our appearances, but only God can work on our inner man.

Jesus made our hearts attractive to God and God is in Love with mankind as a result. When He looks at you, He sees the finished work of Christ and not your frailties. The revelation of this makes us SEERS. We see like Him. You’re a new creature in Christ. You’re God’s best!

*“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”* - *2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV)*

God richly bless you!

Much Love
